We were driving out to the field yesterday morning when we saw a snake on the side of the road. The guys wanted to go see it, so we backed up and went to see what kind it was. It was a rattlesnake! Oh dear... Ben grabbed the bat (thanks Danny!) out of the truck and was gonna get himself a rattler....he kind of chickened out when he got up to it, so Jon grabbed the bat, Andy got the snake to look his direction, Jon snuck up behind it, and clubbed it on the head!
rattlesnake coiled up
getting ready to strike, scary!!
dead rattler
good teamwork on the 1st rattlesnake hunt!
of course we are going to keep it...
When Andy set it down, the back 2/3 of it was still wiggling all around! That evening when we got back they cut the rattle off and skinned it.

Holly I feel sorry for you. Cannot believe they could not just stick to their coon hunting they do back home.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear things are still going well even though you seem to be always fixing something, but that all comes with farming.
Really missed you guys at the 4th and know you missed it a lot. Holly even a friend came and said she needed to take a picture of the pie people to put up on facebook for you. Hope things keep going well and praying to God that everyone stays safe especially with the rattlesnake hunting.
Uncle Andrew Karly wants you to come hunt the bat down that just flew upstairs right before we were ready to go to bed tonight. So much for going to bed early suppose we will have to wait for dad to get home from work. If we waited for you we would be waiting a few days. LOL.
Love you guys,
John, Stacy & Karly
John & Holly- I'm wondering how the snake tasted? Glad to read that you are all doing good. Jen and I miss having you around, but realize nothing here as exciting as rattle snake hunting. May God keep you all safe and use you for His plan. God bless!

Stacy - thanks for the sympathy! It can be fun to hang out with these guys, but it sometimes feels like I'm babysitting a bunch of grown boys! Teenage girls always get a bad rap of being moody and dramatic, but let me tell you guys can be just as bad....
ReplyDeleteI missed the 4th of July back home a lot, the girl that took your picture was Jon's cousin Jessie :) she put it on FB so I could see it, very sweet of her!
sorry to hear about the bat, hope you don't have anymore come in the house.....thanks for the well wishes and good to see you in church today.
Kent - We did not eat the snake as it sat in the back of the truck all day till we got back to the camper at night, meat was spoiled :(
I miss seeing you and Jen, you are such great positive people! I bet your little boy is growing fast. Look forward to helping you guys out again when we get back in the fall!
